Arizona was the seventh most popular state to move to in 2020, according to a recent survey.

Move.org conducted a Pollfish survey of 700 Americans who moved homes last year.

• 14% of movers moved to a different state.

• 43% of movers said the cost of living was a deciding factor in their move.

Arizona was ranked the second most affordable state, in a recent study conducted by the SeniorList.

SeniorList conducted this study by examining data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and compared it to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The study found that on average, Arizona residents spent at least 70.5% of their annual income on living expenses. 

The national average for Americans to spend on living expenses is 81% of their annual income.

Arizona residents spend 10.5% less on living expenses than the average American.

Cities in the West Valley have been seeing a lot of growth these past 10 years.

• Maricopa County is the fourth largest populous county in the United States.

• Buckeye population increased by 56.6%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

• Wickenburg population increased by 24%.

• Litchfield Park population increased by 31.7%.

• Surprise population increased by 20.6%.

Andrea Vega, a resident of Surprise said that it was good that more people are moving to the city.

“Before it was very small and now it’s getting bigger and more known,” Vega said.

Vega said she is concerned about the amount of houses being built in the area because wild animals might become displaced.

According to the Maricopa Associations of Governments, 60.6% of the state population resides in Maricopa County.

The county grew by 17.5% in the last 10 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Arizona’s overall population grew by 13.9%.

“There has been an increase in people moving to Arizona and I think they are all coming from California,” said Jesika Ross, a resident of Surprise.

California ranked No. 1 when it came to people moving out of state, according to the Move.org survey.

Most people who moved to Arizona from out of state from 2015-2018 came from California, according to an analysis conducted by the University of Arizona.

Ross said she is concerned about the rising cost of living in Arizona.

More people moving here could result in longer commute time and prices rising, Ross said.

“Arizona is slowly moving up to becoming the No. 1 state [that] everyone is moving to,” Ross said.

“It’s good that we’re growing in size because we are also getting more diversity,” Vega said.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 45.5% of Arizona residents identified as a racial and or ethnic minority.

“I see a lot of positive changes,” Vega said.
