On June 16th, Daniel Caesar graced the stage at a sold-out Mortgage Matchup Center for the first night of his ¨Son of Spergy” North American leg. After a cancellation was needed in Colorado two days prior due to surgery, many were unsure whether the show would go on in Phoenix. But, lucky for the fans, the night went on.

Daniel Caesar
Fresh off his new album by the same name, Daniel Caesar headed out on a 21-date North American tour. Daniel Caesar began the night with a recorded video explaining his surgery and that he would not be able to move much during the show. Shortly after, a choir came onto the stage to begin singing “Rain Down”. Daniel Caesar came in with a full leg cast on a scooter. The fog quickly covered the crowd, revealing a church-inspired stage design behind him. This was one of the most beautiful stage designs I have ever seen. The light peaking through what I assume to be church windows perfectly captured the vibe of the album. Caesar continued by performing “Call on Me” and “Have a Baby (With Me).”
The crowd was one of my favorite parts of this night. Since everyone knew all of the words to the songs, it was almost like we were joining his on-stage choir. Caesar performed many hits including “Best Part,” “Superpowers” and “Who Knows.” The artist was constantly switching between the piano and the guitar, a wheelchair and a scooter, and still making time for the fans. It was one of the most impressive, beautiful, and heart-wrenching shows I have ever seen. My personal favorite moment was the end of “Sins of the Father”, where a massive instrumental took over the arena. Performing songs off of his old albums and his new album, Caesar crafted a setlist that never fell short.

Closing thoughts
The night flew by and eventually had to end. After the show was over, many fans were left wanting more. Daniel Caesar amazed everyone in the crowd. As I was leaving, I heard people crying and saying how much they enjoyed the night. For some, this was a concert. For most, this was a journey. Daniel Caesar put on a show that will be remembered forever, and I recommend everyone go see him during the “Son of Spergy” World Tour in an arena near you.
