Chars LIVE, formerly known as Char’s Has the Blues, announced it will reopen on Feb. 4 under a new ownership and management team. The beloved nightclub closed in March 2020 due to coronavirus.

The original space, located at 4631 N. 7th Ave in Phoenix, has undergone a variety of interior renovations and in the coming months, the new team will plan to unveil a new outdoor patio area where local food trucks from the Phoenix Street Food Coalition will offer food and beverage options outside of the club’s main bar. Fans of the club will be welcomed back with an eclectic rotating cocktail menu and new music genres on stage including reggae bands, ska bands and DJs in addition to the blues and jazz acts the community loved.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Chars’ friends, fans and family back,” said David Cameron, co-owner. “Chars is an institution in the Melrose District and across Phoenix. We’ve upgraded the space, but we’re excited to keep and honor the happy, open vibe that everyone came to know and love.”

Opening weekend performances will include Soul Power, Big Pete Pierson and Nolaz. A complete calendar of February’s music lineup can be found by visiting CharsLIVE.com.

The well-known music joint was originally built as family house in 1944, then converted to a ballet studio in the ‘60s before becoming a bar in 1981. After a few years, Char’s officially opened.

“Preserving Chars’ history has been our number one priority since starting this reopening,” said Tom Georges, general manager. “We want friends of the club to feel like they’re coming home when see how much care we put into refreshing the venue.”

The 2,245-square-foot club will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
