Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter in the Valley this summer, LumberjAxes is turning up the heat this week as their latest concept takes the historically rugged activity of axe-throwing mainstream with a 13,000 square-foot restaurant, bar, and sporting venue destination. LumberjAxes, located inside Tempe Marketplace will offer up an immersive axe-throwing experience like no other with an impressive lounge and eatery, complete with a culinary menu curated by their celebrity chef who is sure to stir up the Tempe restaurant scene.

“Our ownership team fell in love with the axe-throwing phenomenon while we were on a trip in Canada and just knew we had to bring the concept to the US,” says co-owner, Angelo DiNardo. “We opened Arizona’s premiere axe-throwing location in 2017, and our second location two years later at Westgate in Glendale. With six years under our belt and our team’s extensive culinary and entertainment background, we knew it was time to grow and expand the concept adding to the mecca of foodie and event destinations Arizona is known for.”
All axes fell into place when LumberjAxes scooped up celebrity Chef and culinary director, Matt Hearn who is well known for his appearance on Hell’s Kitchen and his triumph on Rob Dyrdek’s MTV’s “Snack-Off”. Hearn’s resume also includes cooking for the likes of Tom Hanks, the Kennedy family, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z, and taking home the trophy for his chicken tenders versus chicken wings at a wing festival in Bakersville.
“I am beyond thrilled to bring our menu to life this summer by using my culinary journey to challenge the food scene here in Arizona,” states Hearn. “I can say with confidence is this will not be your typical bar food. One of my specialties is taking well-known, traditional comfort foods and fusing flavors, putting on my unique twists on the dishes. The menu will play with the guest’s pallet and allow them to experience food in a new, exciting way.”
Whether you are craving Italian delights or fresh seafood that will transport you to coastal bliss, LumberjAxes scratch kitchen will tantalize the taste buds. Some of the menu items guests can expect include a Maryland Blue Crab Dip served in a house made bread bowl, Lasagna Rolls hand-rolled with ground Angus beef, ricotta, basil, and mozzarella, and Hearn’s Award-Winning Chicken Benders. The menu will also feature exciting pizza combinations such as the Crazy Hawaiian featuring braised pork belly, root beer BBQ, and grilled pineapples and the Chicken Teriyaki Pizza topped with chicken, teriyaki broccoli, fried wonton strips, and sesame seeds. Not to miss is the Detroit Style Pizza staple which has been in the works for the past few years and is sure to compete as the best Detroit Style Pizza in the Valley.
Don’t worry, Chef also has over-the-top desserts covered with items like Not Your Mammies Apple Pie; an Apple Pie Pizza made up of a cinnamon sugar crust, topped with homemade apple pie filling, or the Muddy Mason which is vanilla bean ice cream, warm brownie bites, chocolate, caramel, and sugared pecans loaded into a mason jar and topped with large, torched marshmallows.
And that’s just the food. The event venue will also house a full bar featuring elevated cocktails utilizing preservative and additive-free cold-pressed mixers, an impressive selection of Arizona craft beers, and a selection of premium wines and liquor.
While you aren’t sitting at the lively bar with over 30 TVs with booth and lounge seating for any sporting event or noshing on the menu, guests can unleash their inner lumberjack with craft food and cocktails and embark on the exhilarating adventure of axe-throwing in the state-of-the-art facility. LumberjAxes welcomes visitors of all experience levels, from seasoned hands or beginners looking for a thrilling new activity. Trained instructors will be on hand before each session to provide instruction on proper technique and safety.
The indoor-event space can accommodate groups up to 500 people for private parties and corporate events, complete with 13 targets with each lane accommodating up to 8 people. With a new booking portal and scoring system customized for the LumberjAxes experience, the venue will feature new and popular target games and is perfect for corporate events, team-building outings, birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and other social gatherings providing a unique and unforgettable experience for everyone.
LumberjAxes is centrally located inside Tempe Marketplace District at 2000 E Rio Salado Pkwy #2105, Tempe, AZ 85281 with a large patio that oversees the center plaza/district stage that regularly features live music and regular events. In addition to the restaurant and bar, walk-in open throw sessions will be available 7 days a week starting at 11:00am in addition to group reservations for groups 4 or more; making it easier than ever for guests to drop by and enjoy the venue at their convenience.
