Mountain Shadows, the highly anticipated $100 million new boutique resort coming to Paradise Valley, is scheduled to debut in early 2017. Set in the shadow of Camelback Mountain, the property will feature a modern take on its iconic 1950’s namesake.
The original Mountain Shadows opened in 1959, setting the benchmark for desert luxury before the town of Paradise Valley was even incorporated. Rebuilt from the ground up by Woodbine Development and Westroc Hospitality, the new resort will feature 183 guest rooms, a presidential suite facing Camelback Mountain, a full-service restaurant, two pools, a high tech fitness facility, an 18-hole golf and lounge experience, as well as 37,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, and onsite luxury resort condominiums and lofts available for purchase.
While Mountain Shadows is a completely new build with modern architecture and sleek design features, thoughtful details throughout the resort will honor the rich history of Paradise Valley and the property itself. Design elements will include floor-to-ceiling glass windows and an abundance of outdoor patios and terraces, showcasing the property’s stunning views and serene spaces. Scottsdale-based Allen + Philp Architects designed the resort and New York City interior design firm MARKZEFF conceptualized the interiors. Mountain Shadows will feature:
Resort Condominiums
Designed by the acclaimed Allen + Philp Architects, the resort will include a three-story luxury wing with 42 condominiums and lofts available for purchase. Several floor plans will be offered consisting of studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, lofts and penthouses, ranging from 1,000 to 3,300 square feet. Each unit comes beautifully furnished, with a unique rental plan. All condominiums and lofts will come with full property privileges providing the ultimate in resort living.
Hearth ’61
Led by notable executive chef Charles Wiley, Hearth ‘61 will offer ingredient-driven American cuisine made with time-honored flavor pairings. The full-service restaurant’s open design, exhibition kitchen, signature sunken living room and bar area will be warm and inviting. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the spacious patio will highlight views of the desert landscape and create a serene ambience within. Named in honor of the large hearth the restaurant will use for cooking, and 1961, the year Paradise Valley was incorporated, Hearth ’61 will seek to celebrate the town’s beginning and serve as a hub for guests and locals to gather for good food and good times.
The Citizens Club
The name of the resort’s pool, fitness center and juice bar pays homage to the Citizens Committee that incorporated the town of Paradise Valley. Guests will be able to relax and enjoy serene views of Camelback Mountain at one of two 75-foot swimming pools, which will include food and drink service, cabanas and a pool bar. The resort’s premier fitness center will boast top-of-the-line equipment, yoga and spin classes, guided Camelback Mountain hikes and a juice bar featuring fresh-pressed organic fruits and vegetables. The Citizens Club will offer a transformative experience allowing guests to socialize, as well as refocus their mental and physical health.
The Short Course
Designed by renowned golf course architect Forrest Richardson, ASGCA, Mountain Shadows’ golf course will be a relatively quick play featuring 18 par-3 holes. The fully rebuilt course is designed to be challenging to experienced golfers, yet approachable for novice players, and among only a handful of high-end, resort par-3 courses in the U.S. featuring a full 18 holes. Richardson honors the legend of original Mountain Shadows course designer and his mentor Jack Snyder, ASGCA, by incorporating the natural landscape and beautiful vistas into each hole. The striking views of Camelback and Mummy Mountains, along with the scenic desert surroundings, will make the course a true destination. It will also include an innovative par-2 bonus hole dubbed The Forrest Wager, where golfers can settle bets or press the match, as well as a practice putting lawn.
Rusty’s
After a long day, Rusty’s patio and lounge will offer golfers and spectators light fare and refreshing drinks in a scenic desert locale. Although Rusty’s might conjure images of an out-of-practice golfer, the name also honors real estate legend Rusty Lyon, father of Westroc Hospitality CEO Scott Lyon. Rusty’s will feature outdoor seating and private event space.
PV Mercantile
The premier boutique shop at Mountain Shadows, PV Mercantile will offer high-end fashions, local products and artisanal food and wines thoughtfully curated to embody the Paradise Valley lifestyle.
