The country’s largest 3D light show on a natural canvas, Sedona Northern Lights, is back for a second year and Kimpton Amara Resort and Spa is front-and-center offering the best seat in Sedona for the four-day holiday spectacular.
From Thursday, Dec. 13 through Sunday, Dec. 16, the show will virtually transform the city’s famous red rocks with the largest 3D projection mapping project to ever be performed on a natural landscape in the U.S. The art show will appear on Camelhead Rock four times a night at the top of the hour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The best view of the show will be at Amara and the resort’s signature restaurant, SaltRock Southwest Kitchen, where guests can enjoy “front-row” room stays, dinner reservations and festivities from the courtyard overlooking Camelhead Rock. The technologically advanced method of 3D projection mapping—also known as video mapping or spatial augmented reality—uses specialized software to transform objects or structures into display surfaces for video projection. These surfaces often have irregular shapes, which can blur the boundaries between the real and virtual worlds. To enhance the sense of holiday magic, music to accompany the 3D light show will be played at certain viewing areas and may also be heard by tuning into KAZM 780AM.
