The restaurateurs behind Fukushu Restaurant Concepts have announced they will be introducing its Tucson-based concept, OBON Sushi Bar Ramen, to North Scottsdale in the spring of 2017.

The restaurant, which will open in the old TK’s Tavern space at Scottsdale Quarter, has been praised for its Japanese-inspired menu and notable craft cocktail program, which was recently awarded by the Tucson Bar Awards as ‘Restaurant Bar of the Year’.

“Expanding this concept into the Valley has been a longtime dream of ours since opening our first location in Tucson,” says OBON founder, Brandon Katz. “From our diverse menu to our innovative cocktails and hip yet approachable atmosphere, I truly believe that we’ve created a unique dining experience that will resonate with people.”

Katz got his start in the restaurant industry over a decade ago working as a server and bartender in Tucson. After years of managing and traveling the country serving as a regional director for RA Sushi Bar Restaurant, he left to pursue his goal of opening his own restaurant. Since then, Katz and his partner Andre Joffroy have successfully launched Fukushu Restaurant Concepts which includes Goodness Fresh Food & Juice Bar and OBON Sushi Bar Ramen.

Led by Chef Paulo Im, OBON’s menu will feature from-scratch, modern interpretations of traditional Japanese fare with some Korean influence. At the heart and soul of the menu are the OBON sushi rolls and a variety of ramen selections. Guests will also enjoy a variety of starters, steam buns, crudos and heartier entrees like Katsu Pork and Chicken Teriyaki.

With accolades such as Tucson’s Bartender of the Year and Bombay Sapphire Most Imaginative Bartender, Beverage Director Matt Martinez has crafted an approachable cocktail menu using ingredients made in-house that can often take five hours to prep. The beverage menu will also offer selections of sake and wines by the glass and bottle, as well as local craft beer.
