Ziggi’s Coffee is doubling down on convenience by offering 30 signature protein drinks starting at $5.85.

Thaddeus Langenwalter — who co-owns the Tempe and Gilbert stores with his wife, Alyssa — said these are perfect breakfast substitutes. Earlier this year, Ziggi’s commissioned a survey that revealed 60% of people skip breakfast at least once a week, and 39% rely on beverages to fill the gap.

Langenwalter said customers who order the protein drinks range from parents in minivans to students who overslept.

Some options contain up to 33 grams of protein, especially when paired with alternative milks or sugar-free options at Ziggi’s. Selections include iced protein Colorado mocha, protein strawberry smoothie, protein lemonade smoothie, protein blueberry pomegranate smoothie, hot sugar-free protein flavored latte, and iced protein chai.

“It’s an easy way to get your protein in without overthinking it,” Langenwalter said.

Langenwalter’s favorite is the hot protein fireside — espresso steamed with whole milk, toasted marshmallow, white chocolate, and white chocolate drizzle. He orders it sugar-free.

“It’s a cozy campfire in a cup — except this one comes with protein,” Langenwalter said.

His stores are known not only for their drinks but also for their service. During his hiring process, Langenwalter looks for people with personality and kindness. His baristas know “their stuff.”

“You can teach anyone to make coffee, but you can’t teach them to care,” he said. “Ziggi’s corporate team obsesses over flavor quality — the kind of attention that makes customers switch from other chains and never look back.”
