The Tempe Chamber of Commerce announced six finalists for the prestigious Business Excellence Awards.

The recipients will be announced June 29 at the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Annual Luncheon, presented by Southwest Airlines. The awards promote the advancement of responsible business leadership in the community and publicly recognize local businesses demonstrating a passion for excellence. The awards honor companies for success in business growth, employee development, community involvement and customer service.

The awards will be presented in two categories for Small and Large Business of the Year. The finalists for the Business Excellence Award in the Small Business of the Year Category are:

FASTSIGNS

FASTSIGNS, located on Priest Drive, is a sign-making company that specializes in all types of banners, vinyl and printing, and was the first of its franchise to open a location in Arizona in 1993. Since then, the company has recently opened a brand-new 5200 square feet space. The company works with military families and donates welcome home signs to returning veterans.

Pest’R Us Exterminating

Pest’R Us has been a pest extermination company in Tempe since its inception in 1995 when owner Eric Papadeas ventured out on his own to start the company. Built on integrity, experience, a listening ear and caring to the needs of the client, their slogan is “pest’r us before they pester you.” The company maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Special Moments Catering

Special Moments is an all-purpose catering service that has been family-owned since 1984. Having gone through several phases of their business over the years from restaurants and murder-mystery games, today the business stays dedicated to providing meals and catering. Special Moments builds their business around the three tenets of being accommodating, delicious and affordable.

The finalists for the Business Excellence Award in the Large Business of the Year Category are: 

Tempe St. Luke’s/IASIS Healthcare

Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital is an 86-bed full-service hospital and a campus of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Tempe that has served the East Valley for over 60 years. It houses an emergency department and critical care unit as well as specialty programs like wound care and pain management. The hospital recently underwent a full renovation, replacing workspaces and patient rooms to provide better patient care. The hospital is in the IASIS Healthcare network with other medical centers in the East Valley. 

Vestar/Tempe Marketplace

Since its inception in 1977, Vestar is one of the leading privately held real estate companies in the western United States. Vestar acquires, develops and manages retail and entertainment destinations of varying size and scale that serve as destinations and community focal points including Tempe Marketplace. The shopping center holds over 100 retail and restaurant spaces and hosts upwards of 400 public events each year for the community. In addition, Tempe Marketplace sponsors and hosts numerous charity events throughout the year.

Waste Management of Arizona

Waste Management of Arizona has been servicing local communities for over 50 years. Serving the community for waste disposal and recycling, the company seeks to minimize environmental impact while managing waste resources. Their safety metrics exceed industry standards and maintain a Satisfactory Carrier Safety Rating by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Waste Management supports more than 25 community organizations across the state.

The recipients of the 2017 Business Excellence Awards will be announced and honored at the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Annual Luncheon June 29 at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel.

The Business Excellence Award winners for 2016 were The Dhaba and Caliente Construction.
