RED Development announced today that Block 23 in Downtown Phoenix will have four tenants occupying space at the high-rise, mixed-use destination by this summer, in addition to welcoming the first residents at The Ryan, a 332-residence apartment community.

Following the success of Fry’s Food Store opening in 2019, the first full-service grocery store in the area and the most technologically advanced in the state, WeWork is among the first two office tenants to open at Block 23 occupying 90,000-square-feet on the seventh and eighth floors. Open since January, WeWork is able to accommodate 1,600 members and features the brand’s signature mid-century modern decor, open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling glass and steel framing, communal working space and futuristic neon design elements. The second office tenant, Ernst & Young U.S. LLP (EY), opened its 20,000-square-foot office in December and employs more than 280 people at the Block 23 location.

“It’s an exciting year for us as we continue to welcome new tenants at Block 23,” said Mike Ebert, managing partner at RED. “We’re confident that with the new tenants open, Block 23 offers everyday luxuries and conveniences that will continue to bring the best-of-the-best local, regional and national retailers and employers to the downtown.

First up for opening this spring is The Ryan by StreetLights Residential that is now pre-leasing for May move-ins. The luxury apartment community offers studio, one- and two-bedroom residences ranging in size from 576 to 1,525 square feet. The community will boast an array of amenities including a luxurious fifth level pool deck with lounge seating, grilling stations, firepits with panoramic views; a catering kitchen for entertaining with a private dining area; a fitness center with a Flex Fitness Room featuring a WellBeats system with Peloton Spin Bikes and yoga mats; a co-working area; a resident bar and lounge with a fireplace and lounge space; an expansive activity and yoga lawn; a dog run and pet spa; EV charging stations and cold storage and private garages with select residences.

This summer, Block 23 will welcome its first restaurant tenant, Blanco Cocina + Cantina, a Fox Restaurant Concept (FRC). As the fifth location for the brand, the 6,997 square-foot modern-Mexican restaurant will draws inspiration from its roots to create personable, engaging design installations that celebrate Phoenix culture. On the exterior, a vibrant, letter “B” wall comprised of various positive affirmations such as “Be Family,” “Be Strong,” and “Be Curious” will encourage guests to celebrate their own identities. On the interior, diners will be greeted by a large gallery wall that evokes a spirit of camaraderie via a collection of Hispanic-American portraiture and photos that highlight members of the Blanco community.

The menu at Blanco will feature an assortment of vibrant and savory shareables, tacos (from seafood to marinated grilled steak), burritos, bowls, enchiladas and fajitas that are as colorful and rich with flavor as they are irresistible. Menu highlights include Hamachi & Watermelon Ceviche with fresh jalapeño and pomegranate seeds, and casual, yet creative tacos on hand made tortillas, like the Carne Asada paired with scallion relish, crushed avocado and spicy garlic butter. The bar program will complete the scene for the restaurant with an array of tequila, mezcal, vacation-ready cocktails and refreshing margaritas crafted with house-made sours and fresh-squeezed juice.

Focused on community, creativity, and commerce, Block 23 continues RED Development’s commitment to the urban core of Phoenix and marks CityScape’s expansion to 2nd Street.
