The Arizona-based resort development firm Power Hotel Group, working with Starwood Hotels, selected Phoenix-based Ideation Design Group (IDG) to design the Valley’s newest Sheraton project. The four-story 160,000+ square foot hotel is nestled between the new Chicago Cubs’ spring training facility and Riverview Park in Mesa, Arizona, near Rio Salado Parkway and Dobson Road. The project broke ground last spring and is putting on its finishing touches this month, preparing to open just 13 months after breaking ground.
The IDG design team spearheaded the interior architecture and design for the hotel’s lobby, 180 guest rooms (including 7 VIP rooms and a presidential suite), 30,000 square foot conference center and two onsite full-service restaurants. IDG Foodservice worked with the team to design the conference center and restaurants’ kitchen areas. The two full-service restaurants that grace the property are Stats Sports Grill which has upscale-casual sports bar theme and Legends, an elegant steakhouse.
“We began concept designs last March,” said Jennifer Milmont, Senior Interior Designer. “Our vision was to create a space with a modern sophisticated look and feel that reflects Arizona’s natural elegance.”
IDG accomplished their design vision using a warm desert color palette while avoiding a kitschy southwestern vibe. The lobby boasts custom wood paneling, indigenous stone on the two-sided fireplace and rich textures throughout the many seating areas. Stats Sports Grill has brick walls throughout to compliment Wrigley Stadium in Chicago. Custom edison bulb light fixtures surround the bar to create a warm ambiance for sports fans of all types. Wood slat ceiling features, deep slate blue colors, one-of-a-kind wallcovering and round booths with custom privacy screens all lend themselves to making Legends steakhouse a memorable experience.
The Hotel will also include a resort style pool area, fitness center, an on-site salon and full-service Starbucks Cafe.
“It’s really a great location, five minutes from everywhere, servicing the quad-cities: Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale,” said Ideation Design Group Principal, Carl Schaffer. “This is probably one of the fastest large hotel projects that have ever been built in Arizona. Mesa has been unbelievably accommodating and a wonderful partner in this experience.”
The Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West opened for business April 15 of 2015.
