Elizabeth Shabaker, Versant Capital Management

Background: Elizabeth Shabaker, CFP, CDC, is co-owner and co-CEO of Versant Capital Management, a multi-family office that focuses on wealth management, investments, family governance, next-generation financial education, estate planning, tax planning, and philanthropy. Shabaker is actively involved in many community initiatives, serving on the Dean’s Council at the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU, as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona, and on advisory boards for the Arizona Community Foundation and TGen.

Source of pride: “I’m glad our firm has remained independent and declined acquisition offers. It allows us to implement our values and guide how we care for clients in the way we best believe. We continue building a strong firm for our clients and the next generations and that’s an incredibly rewarding trajectory.”

Professional advice: “Start out as a generalist in the financial industry to open yourself up to a broad foundation of knowledge. Then, get to know your strengths — not just what you do well but what strengthens you. Your strengths (and passions) will help you specialize your skills and stay invigorated in your career.”

Movie with impact: “‘Pretty Woman’ has many life lessons, such as always being yourself, never judging a book by its cover, the importance of confidence and an unfaltering sense of humor, money isn’t everything and good friends are for life.”
