A new hospital serving Mesa and the East Valley is on track for a mid-2019 opening. Abrazo Mesa Hospital will be located at 5750 E. Baseline Rd. and provide emergency and acute care services, according to officials with Abrazo Community Health Network.

Abrazo Mesa Hospital is a new type of medical facility created with an emphasis on convenience and efficiency, according to Abrazo Community Health Network CEO Frank Molinaro. It will include a 13-bed emergency department, an operating room and eight inpatient rooms.

Abrazo Community Health Network currently operates five hospitals, along with physician practices and urgent care centers. Abrazo Mesa Hospital will be the network’s first foray into the East Valley.

“Abrazo is growing to meet community healthcare needs across the Valley,” said Molinaro. “Our other hospitals, particularly Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital and Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, attract patients from a wide geographic area. It makes sense to expand our services into the East Valley.”

Abrazo Mesa Hospital will focus on providing emergency care and less complex medical procedures.

“Medical care continues to evolve with a consumer orientation and this is a new model for bringing healthcare into the community,” added Molinaro. “The Abrazo Mesa Hospital will offer a patient-friendly environment in an efficient, convenient location. It’s designed to provide close integration with our other facilities for patients who may require more complex care.”

The hospital’s emergency department will be open around the clock and staffed by board-certified emergency physicians. Abrazo Mesa Hospital will offer surgery, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy and other outpatient services in the 32,500 square foot building.

Abrazo Mesa Hospital is expected to create approximately 50 full-time equivalent clinical and support staff jobs. Open positions are listed at abrazohealth.com/careers.

“We’re very excited about Abrazo Mesa Hospital and are actively recruiting for nurses with ER, Telemetry and OR experience, as well as Lab and Radiology Techs, Dietary and Housekeeping staff,” said Mesa resident Christy Matlock, administrative director for the hospital.

“The new hospital will appeal to those who are seeking value, quality and convenience in healthcare,” said Matlock. “Abrazo is part of a community built on care, providing an integrated network of medical services closer to home for its patients.”
