Abrazo Central Campus is now certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reflecting the hospital’s investment in neuroscience talent and capabilities.
Comprehensive Stroke Centers can treat patients suffering hemorrhagic or large ischemic strokes with follow up care in an intensive care unit. Centers can also treat patients with suspected aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, those requiring specialized testing or therapies such as endovascular surgery, and those requiring multispecialty management.
“Comprehensive Stroke Center certification is difficult to achieve, and it recognizes that physicians at Abrazo Central Campus can now treat a much wider range of neurovascular disease,” said Dr. Emun Abdu, medical director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery for Abrazo Health. “First responders can now bring stroke patients to Abrazo Central for virtually any kind of stroke or stroke complication.
“With complex stroke care, you must have the best clinicians, resources and support, and the ability to act with extreme efficiency because of the time-critical nature of these events.”
The certification affirms that Abrazo Central addresses the full spectrum of cerebrovascular diseases – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes. It is based on standards created by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and granted by DNV GL Healthcare, a certification body operating in more than 100 countries.
