Arizona’s growth is something worth celebrating.
Across our state, new homes are being built, businesses are expanding, employers are investing and communities are taking shape in places that looked very different just a decade ago. Families continue to put down roots here, and companies continue to see Arizona as a place where they can build a future.

That momentum says something important about our state. People believe in Arizona.
Now we have an opportunity to make sure the infrastructure supporting that growth is every bit as ambitious as the growth itself.
As cranes reshape our skylines and new neighborhoods extend farther into the desert, roads, intersections, utilities, drainage systems, sidewalks and emergency access must evolve alongside them. The question shouldn’t be whether Arizona continues to grow. It should be: How do we grow in a way that makes our communities stronger, safer and better prepared for the future?
That starts with planning.
The safest communities are often the ones where potential problems are addressed before they become problems. A well-designed intersection, clearly marked pedestrian crossing, thoughtfully planned construction zone or roadway built for tomorrow’s traffic can seem like a small detail. But those details matter tremendously to the people who travel our roads, walk our neighborhoods and raise families here.

Public safety doesn’t begin after a community is built. It begins at the planning table.
Developers, municipalities, engineers, transportation agencies and business leaders all have a role to play. When these groups work together early, we can create communities that don’t simply accommodate growth but are designed to thrive because of it.
As an attorney, I see what can happen when something goes wrong. But the best outcome is always the accident that never happens, the injury that is prevented and the family that never needs to call a lawyer in the first place.
That’s why I believe we should think about infrastructure not simply as a cost of growth, but as an investment in it.
Safer roads, better traffic flow, reliable utilities and thoughtful public spaces make communities more attractive to families and employers. They help businesses operate more efficiently. They protect the quality of life that attracted so many people to Arizona in the first place.
Economic development and public safety aren’t competing priorities. Done well, they strengthen one another.
Arizona has already demonstrated that it knows how to grow. The opportunity before us now is to show that we know how to grow wisely.
That means planning not only for the traffic we have today, but the traffic we’ll have ten years from now. It means thinking about pedestrians and cyclists as communities take shape. It means anticipating how new developments affect surrounding neighborhoods, emergency response and transportation corridors. And it means bringing the right people to the table early enough to solve challenges before they become hazards.
The decisions we make today will shape how Arizona functions for decades.
Our success shouldn’t be measured only by how many homes we build, how many employers relocate here or how many cranes fill our skyline. It should also be measured by whether the communities we create are places where people can live, work, raise families and travel safely.
Arizona’s growth story is still being written. We have the opportunity to make its next chapter about more than getting bigger.
We can build smarter. We can plan further ahead. And we can create communities that future generations will be proud to inherit.
Growth is worth celebrating. Growth built thoughtfully is a legacy.
