Phoenix Design One promotes Sophia Humphrey to principal

Award-winning interior architecture firm Phoenix Design One Inc. (PDO) has promoted long-time team member Sophia Humphrey to the position of Principal.

In her new role, Humphrey will continue to manage the PDO studio and directly oversee more than 40 buildings, of which PDO is the architect of record. She also joins the PDO executive leadership team, responsible for the vision and growth of the Scottsdale-based firm.

“Sophia is a tremendous mentor and is committed to continuously building PDO’s culture with an emphasis on fun, creativity and client care,” said PDO Principal Jennie Mayer. “She has exceptional talent and vision, both of which we know will help guide PDO into the future and build its next generation of leaders.”

Jeff Holt joins Cigna Medical Group as president and GM

Jeff Holt has been named president and general manager of Cigna Medical Group.

In this role, Holt will lead the medical group through its next chapter of growth and innovation, and build on its 50-year legacy of providing nationally recognized high-quality medical care and services to Arizonans.

“Jeff is an experienced, forward-thinking leader who will drive our strategy to reach and serve more lives, and increase access to high-quality, affordable care,” said Matt Bennett, senior vice president of Care Delivery for Evernorth, the health services business of Cigna Corporation. “He will also partner with leaders across the organization to help us evolve how care is accessed and delivered to best meet the needs of our customers.”

Holt has 20 years of experience leading large integrated health care organizations with roles in strategy and business development, operations, clinical quality and patient and provider experience.  He most recently served as chief operating officer at a 472-bed hospital within Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health, the largest health care provider in New Jersey and teaching affiliate of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. During his tenure, he drove meaningful growth and achieved impressive quality, patient satisfaction, and business results.

MacKenzie Hill, Mercedes LaPorchia, Nick Stanbury join JSH

Jones, Skelton & Hochuli, PLC announced the addition of three new associate attorneys at its Phoenix office: MacKenzie Hill, Mercedes LaPorchia, and Nick Stanbury.

MacKenzie Hill

MacKenzie focuses her practice on civil litigation, defending clients in the transportation and manufacturing industries against a wide range of liability claims.

A member of the firm’s Transportation, Auto, Products & General Liability Defense Trial Group, MacKenzie earned her law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law; a master’s degree in dispute resolution from Pepperdine University, Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution; and a Bachelor of Science degree in business management with a minor in psychology from Southern Oregon University.

Mercedes LaPorchia

With a unique ability to identify issues and solve problems, Mercedes assists clients in the construction and manufacturing industries in a variety of civil and commercial litigation cases, including insurance defense, general liability, construction defect and personal injury cases.

Mercedes has previous experience with two Phoenix-area law firms, where she managed a busy practice focused on construction defect, property damage and personal injury claims from inception through arbitration, on both the defense and prosecution side. Mercedes, who also has experience from working at the Office of the Primary Public Defender’s Office in San Diego, attended Whittier Law School.

Nick Stanbury

Nick focuses his practice in the areas of health care and medical malpractice. Using the knowledge gained from his time as a spine implant salesperson, where he learned of the dynamic between hospitals, providers and medical device vendors, Nick has unique insight into the competitive economic environment and the ever-changing regulatory atmosphere in which health care clients operate. He also learned the ins and outs of litigation as a summer associate at a boutique law firm, where he compiled legal research and authored legal memorandum and briefs, among other projects.

Nick, who represents a wide variety of health care providers, educating clients on the demands and risks they face daily in operational and patient care, earned his law degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State. He earned his undergraduate degree in finance and supply chain management from Arizona State University and his M.B.A. from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Kidder Mathews welcomes Heidi Ray 

Kidder Mathews has recruited Heidi Ray as Senior Vice President and Director of Engineering & Sustainability for Asset Services across the firm’s 21 West Coast locations.

Ray brings 25 years of facilities, construction, and maintenance leadership in commercial building environments. She is directly responsible for Kidder Mathews’ building engineering teams and drives clients’ progressive energy management and sustainability initiative.

Her previous experience includes life science companies Aptevo Therapeutics and Silverback Therapeutics. She served as Head of Facilities and Operations at Aptevo and, most recently, as Senior Director of Facilities and Operations at Silverback.
