With the help of KTAR News 92.3 FM and 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, communities across Arizona gave more than $1,841,272 to support world-class care at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. It was a record number and the latest achievement for the nation’s most successful radiothon of its kind.
The event, broadcast live over 19 hours from the Hospital cafeteria, included appearances from KTAR and Arizona’s Sports personalities, including Pat McMahon, Pamela Hughes, Mac and Gaydos and more. Families arrived by the hour to share their stories of healing at Phoenix Children’s, inspiring listeners to call in to phone banks staffed by sponsors and community volunteers. Plenty of celebrities stopped by to lend support, including Governor Jan Brewer and familiar faces from the Arizona Cardinals, including defensive end Zach Allen, mascot Big Red and cheerleaders.
“Give-A-Thon is two of the best days of the year. To once again be the largest fundraiser in the country for a children’s hospital speaks volumes about the people of Arizona,” said Scott Sutherland, vice president and market manager of Bonneville Phoenix, which operates KTAR News 92.3, 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station and ESPN Phoenix.
Every dollar raised during Give-A-Thon makes an impact on the delivery of expert, family-centered care for more than 180,000 patients each year.
“Give-A-Thon showcases the incredible generosity of Arizona’s communities,” said Steve Schnall, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation’s senior vice president and chief development officer. “None of this would be possible without our long-standing partnership with our friends at KTAR News and Arizona’s Sports Station. They bring their passion, energy and commitment to inspire and encourage their listeners to help deliver world-class care, closer to home for Arizona’s kids. Our children deserve the very best.”
