Opportunities to play provide a variety benefits for children, which is why Banner Ironwood Medical Center and the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee partnered with the Town of Queen Creek to increase access to play at the Town’s new park, Mansel Carter Oasis Park. The $130,000 donation will cover poured rubber surfacing over the entire playground area and around the sand play area.
“The benefits of play for children are far reaching, including increased physical activity, social interaction, opportunities for creativity and exposure to nature,” stated Banner Ironwood’s Chief Executive Officer Sharon Lind. “Investing in access to play is investing in the health of our youth. We value the partnership with the Town and are excited to be a part of this important project.”
The Town broke ground on the 48-acre park located near Sossaman and Ocotillo last summer. Mansel Carter Oasis Park will include ball fields, a fishing lake, a splash pad, and thanks to Banner Ironwood Medical Center, an inclusive playground.
“The generosity from Banner allows the Town to exceed simply meeting ADA requirements for the playground,” shared Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “This is a fantastic partnership that benefits all youth in our community. I’d also like to thank one of our outstanding community members who spearheaded this effort, Stephanie Lema. She voiced the importance of inclusive play during a workshop for our Parks & Recreation Master Plan. This important addition to Mansel Carter Oasis Park emphasizes the value of community input and partnerships.”
Mansel Carter Oasis Park, including the inclusive play area, is anticipated to open this fall.
