Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino, long-known for its corporate giving and community support, impacted many local organizations in 2016 through its HERO program. HERO is an employee-based volunteer program in which Harrah’s staff and their families make noteworthy and visible contributions to the community by donating their time, skills, expertise and compassion to dozens of volunteer projects throughout the community.
Harrah’s knocked its initial volunteer goal of 15,000 hours out of the park and ended up contributing a total of 19,298 volunteer hours in 2016. Moreover, more than 90 percent of the casino’s employees participated in a HERO activity in 2016, which is an increase from the 89.7 percent of participating employees in 2015.
Once again, the casino ranked number one across the entire Caesars Entertainment brand for its October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, during which 80 percent of employees participated in at least one activity. Harrah’s also ranked second in the brand for its CodeGreen efforts during the month of April, another repeat from 2015’s list of accomplishments.
The most tangible way Harrah’s philanthropic efforts can be seen is through the organizations and causes the casino supported this past year: Sun Lakes Lions Club-Camp Tatiyee; Melonhead Foundation; American Cancer Society-Maricopa Relay for Life; Adopt-A-Highway; HHHOHP Stand Down for Veterans; United Way Golf Tournament; United Services Blood Drive; Area Agency on Aging; School Supply Drive FOR Maricopa; Ak-Chin Earth Day; Pat’s Run; F.O.R. Maricopa Food Drive; Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure; Movember; Christmas Angels; Maricopa Against Abuse; United Way of Pinal County.
For 2017, Harrah’s has upped the ante, setting a more than 90 percent participation goal and a 16,000 volunteer hours mark.
