Phoenix area corporate leaders are invited to join the Light The Night Executive Challenge, an eight-week philanthropic competition among corporate business leaders in Greater Phoenix to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) . The effort will officially kick off with a private dinner at 6 p.m. on September 23 at Azure Paradise Valley.

The kickoff celebration will bring together the challengers and their guests for an evening of networking, entertainment and inspirational stories in the fight against cancer. All funds raised will support the 2019 Greater Phoenix Light The Night event on Saturday, November 16 at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

This year, Ken Peterson, vice president of sales and marketing for Shea Homes Arizona, is serving as chairman of the Light The Night Executive Challenge.

“My passion for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Light The Night began when my father was diagnosed with pre-stages of blood cancer two years ago, and we were introduced to LLS’s mission to create a world without blood cancers,” said Peterson. “Fortunately, he is doing much better due to a drug funded by LLS.”

Peterson says the goal is to raise $300K for LLS with the Executive Challenge. The Greater Phoenix Light The Night event goal is $1.3M.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds leading-edge research for every type of blood cancer, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other rare types of blood cancers. As the largest nonprofit funder of cutting-edge blood cancer research to advance cures, LLS has invested nearly $1.3 billion in cancer research since it began in 1949, leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients. LLS helped advance 34 of the 39 blood cancer treatment options approved by the FDA in 2017 and 2018.
