Valley Partnership, the Valley of the Sun’s premier advocacy group for responsible development, has announced that New Pathways For Youth is the 2019 recipient of its annual Valley Partnership Community Project. The event brings together members and leaders within the Valley’s developmental community for a day of service. This years event will take place on November 4 from to improve the building and structure of New Pathways For Youth’s building located in Downtown Phoenix.
New Pathways For Youth serves youth, ages 12-21, experiencing poverty and four times the adversity of other youth—adversities such as parent incarceration, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and dropping out of high school through one on one mentorship, life skills retreats, and workshops.
“We feel so fortunate to have been selected as the recipient for Valley Partnership’s 2019 Community Project,” said Christy McClendon, president and CEO of New Pathways For Youth. “At New Pathways For Youth we disrupt chronic poverty and adversity for 400 at risk youth annually, outpacing national benchmarks in high school graduation and post-secondary success.The building improvements that Valley Partnership will be providing us will allow us to mentor and make an impact on the lives of even more youth who need us most.”
Valley Partnership makes its selection based off of who can benefit from their skills, efforts and supplies provided by its partners to renovate and enhance facilities for children and those in need. This year it wanted to take it a step further and select an organization that it could give to in more than just a developmental way. As New Pathways For Youth is a mentorship-based program, Valley Partnership wanted to bring awareness of the program to its members and the development community and encourage mentorship.
“The project this year is very special to us,” said Cheryl Lombard, president and CEO of Valley Partnership. “Selecting New Pathways For Youth gives us the opportunity to make an impact in many ways. We’ll be improving upon their new building which is so important to their work, but also exposing our members and community to mentorship and how they can make a difference in these at risk youths lives.”
More than five non-profit organizations in the Valley applied for the 2019 Community Project. This year, Valley Partnership celebrates 32 years of the Community Project. In the past 32 years, Valley Partnership has contributed more than $4 million to the community through these projects.
Sponsorships have already started to pour in for the 2019 project. Several companies have
already committed to generously donate their company’s time and services to this year’s
initiative.
