Layton Construction Co., Inc., a nationally-ranked commercial contractor, has hired Brock Grayson, a licensed architect with more than 16 years of experience, as vice president of their Arizona business unit.
Grayson has overseen the design and construction of over 100 million square feet of projects in the western United States, with design experience including ding office, manufacturing, distribution, tenant improvements, healthcare and automotive.
He spent 16 years at Ware Malcomb Architects where he was principal and shareholder. Moving to Phoenix in 2007 to open the office for Ware Malcomb, he spent the past seven years building a name for himself and for the company. Under his leadership, their Phoenix office was exceeding growth expectations year after year and quickly became one of the most profitable offices in the company. In 2012 the Phoenix office had over 4.5 million square feet of projects in construction.
Prior to joining the Layton Construction team, Grayson played an instrumental role as architect-of-record in Layton’s build-out of the Fender Musical Instruments Headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz. He also partnered with Layton on the design and construction of the Marshalls Distribution Facility in Phoenix, Ariz, one of the largest facilities ever built in the Phoenix market.

Some of Grayson’s other signature projects include Prologis Park Riverside in Phoenix, Ariz.; Ford Motor Company in Manteca, Calif.; Cypress Semiconductor Headquarters in San Jose, Calif.; and First Solar in Mesa, Ariz.
He’s received multiple industry awards, most recently winning the NAIOP Industrial Design of the Future competition with Ware Malcomb in 2013. In 2012, his work in partnership with Layton Construction on the Fender headquarters won the Red Awards Best Tenant Improvement Project and an ENR Award of Merit.
“He’s one of the best in the business, already providing additional value to our customers and making an immediate, positive impact on our entire organization,” Geier said.
Grayson received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona in 1997 and is currently licensed in California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Board, and the United States Green Building Council, in addition to other affiliations.
