2019 Arizona Firm of the Year awarded to Gould Evans + Canary

Nationally recognized architecture, interiors, graphics and design firm Gould Evans + Canary was honored with the 2019 AIA Arizona Firm of the Year award. Gould Evans’ entire studio of 38 filled the stage to receive the award on Friday night at the Phoenix Art Museum.

“For Gould Evans + Canary, it’s about a collective approach. It’s not about a single person, a single hand, or a single pen. It’s about a process. It’s an open process that tries to make an impact in a community at all scales.” said Trudi Hummel, AIA, while accepting the award. The firm thanked Edmundo Soltero, FAIA, for his nomination along with all of their forward-thinking clients that share in the desire to build great work together.

Notable award-winning and current projects include the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community Justice Center, the reimagining of Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium, The Biodesign Institute A+B at Arizona State University, the City of Phoenix 7th Avenue Streetscape, Maricopa County South Court Tower, the South-Central Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Business Assistance and Land Use Planning Grant (City of Phoenix), and the Phoenix Central Station Transit and Mixed-Use Redevelopment currently in design.

The studio’s multidisciplinary approach to design links the city form with architecture, interior, graphics and art. Behind each project is a process which debates to discover the best outcome or solution. Each designed response is site specific, establishing new spatial connections between environments and societies. This adaptive approach is intentional, creating spaces, moments and experiences to be enjoyed by local communities. Gould Evans + Canary represent an engaged design expertise with a reputation founded upon creativity and capability to tackle the complex, the socially embedded and the aspirational.
