When Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company announced its U.S. debut in north Phoenix in 2020, it was a win for Arizona. After all, the company checks all the boxes for economic developers: jobs, revenues, future growth and a robust industry supply chain.
The semiconductor manufacturing company has committed $165 billion in Arizona, the largest foreign direct investment in the nation’s history. An economic analysis by the Greater Phoenix Economic Council projects that TSMC Arizona’s three fabs will create more than 20,000 accumulated unique construction jobs and 18,000-plus supplier and consumer indirect jobs, generating a total of $1.4 billion in tax revenue to Arizona over a 13-year period.
Lending a hand to nonprofits in need
These numbers are certainly indicators of value. Yet, beyond the buildings, revenues and jobs is something equally important to TSMC Arizona: giving back to the community.
Following in the footsteps of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, TSMC Arizona endeavors to lend a hand to others and bolster a diverse array of nonprofits at a time when they need it most.
In its 2025 Health of the U.S. Nonprofit Sector: Annual Review, Independent Sector reported that 68% of the nation’s nonprofits expect demand for their services to grow in 2026, but just 31% of these organizations are expanding the number of people they serve. That’s largely because 81% of survey respondents struggled to raise the funds needed to cover their costs. This means that there is a social need that remains unmet.
Arizona is facing similar challenges. AZ Impact for Good, a statewide resource for nonprofits, said that as grant funding is cut or uncertain, nonprofits are seeking new solutions.

Six key philanthropic priorities
TSMC Arizona is stepping up to help by following the framework of the TSMC Charity Foundation, which focuses on four key pillars: caring for the elderly; promoting filial piety (respect, obedience and service for one’s parents and care of one’s family); caring for the disadvantaged; and protecting the environment. TSMC Arizona added talent development and education to these priorities.
During the past year, the company has made meaningful contributions to 20 organizations that support STEM enrichment, community aid and environmental stewardship.
Community involvement takes on many forms
Some cases in point: To prepare workers for jobs of the future, TSMC Arizona partners with colleges and universities and cultivates STEM learning in youth through the Sci Tech Institute. The company is also investing in an innovative Mind Over Music program in which Phoenix Symphony musicians help teachers embed STEM curriculum into music classes, and has expanded the link between music and science and math by covering the cost of field trips to the Musical Instrument Museum for 2,500 K-12 under-resourced and Title I students.
Beyond STEM education, TSMC Arizona is fulfilling basic needs for the state’s most vulnerable citizens by participating in St. Vincent de Paul’s annual turkey drive. The company’s $25,000 donation contributed to a record-breaking $1 million in total funds collected, making it the nation’s largest one-day turkey drive.
Veterans have received aid through TSMC Arizona’s investment in the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, and TSMC Arizona has contributed to two other organizations – The Nature Conservancy and the Center for the Future of Arizona, reflecting TSMC Arizona’s commitment to sustainability and to addressing contemporary community and economic issues.
Funding aside, the company also takes a grassroots approach to community engagement by hosting Saturday morning produce markets at its Phoenix campus in partnership with Borderlands Produce Rescue. Such events have redistributed more than 70,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to local families while reducing food waste. There are also blood drives in collaboration with the American Red Cross of Arizona & New Mexico, and thousands of TSMC Arizona employees share their time and talents with a variety of other causes.
TSMC Arizona is at the top of its game, powering everything from smartphones and electric vehicles to AI systems and aerospace technologies. But the company views its work in an even bigger way by powering the community for the people who call Arizona home.
