The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, has recognized Abrazo Scottsdale Campus as a Primary Stroke Center for achieving a high level of expertise in treating patients who arrive with symptoms of a stroke.
Accreditation ensures those suffering stroke symptoms will be able to receive the care they need close to home, avoiding a long transport to another hospital when time is of the essence, according to The Joint Commission.
Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, 3929 E. Bell Road, received the Primary Stroke Center designation after being evaluated by a Joint Commission expert for compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.
“We are thoroughly committed to providing our patients the highest quality stroke care centered on current scientific research to ensure continued improvement in treatment,” said Dr. David Tupponce, Chief Executive Officer for the Abrazo Scottsdale Campus. “In collaboration with our community emergency medical services, physicians and staff, we remain poised and ready to serve the residents who present to our hospital with signs and symptoms of stroke.’’
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States, according to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
