Abrazo West Campus is partnering with Homeless Youth Connection to host a new shoe drive to benefit homeless teens on March 13.
A donation vehicle will be parked at the entrance to Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way, to accept shoe donations. People who bring a new pair of shoes for men or women (sizes 8-14 and value of at least $25) will be given a Goodyear Ballpark voucher for a ticket value of up to $25 for the spring training game that day.
The choice of seat locations range from $8 lawn seats up to a $25 (maximum value) infield box seat with seating based on availability. The game will be at 1:05 p.m. featuring the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers.
To kick start the shoe drive, Abrazo West Campus employees will be collecting shoes at the hospital, 13677 W. McDowell Rd., prior to the March 13 event.
“Donating shoes is a great way for us to partner with others and help meet a community need,’’ said Stan Holm, Abrazo West Campus CEO. “I commend our associates for seeking ways to embrace and help lead this effort. I’m also am very proud of their passion to touch lives.’’
Larry Cervarich, founder of the non-profit Homeless Youth Connection, said the shoe drive’s goal is to collect shoes for more than 200 homeless teens.
“What better way to enjoy our amazing Arizona springtime than with a baseball game, while knowing you did something to help the homeless youth right here in the West Valley,’’ he said.
The shoe drive is one of several community events hosted by Abrazo West Campus each year. Recent examples include over 1,000 cases of water bottles, blood drives and Rescue roundup which partnered with fire, police and other agencies on injury prevention.
