Barrow Neurosurgical Associates appoints new CEO
Barrow Neurosurgical Associates (BNA), the largest physician-owned neurosurgical and spine practice in Arizona, has appointed John Kinna as Chief Executive Officer.
“Kinna brings strong leadership skills and the experience and knowledge necessary to help Barrow Neurosurgical Associates achieve success,” said Robert Spetzler, MD, president of BNA. “He will help us aim to position ourselves as the world-class model for excellence in neurosurgery and advanced spine care through our commitment to sound and innovative medical practice, a profound dedication to our patients, and our affiliation with Barrow Neurological Institute,” he continued.
Kinna, a seasoned healthcare leader with more than 27 years of experience in medical group practice leadership and management of multi-specialty groups for free-standing and integrated healthcare delivery systems, offers a unique perspective and relatable approach to internal and external stakeholders alike.
“I am excited, humbled and honored to be a part of the Barrow Neurosurgical Associates team and bring my experience to the competitive Arizona market,” said Kinna. “The reputation of this remarkable group of world-renown surgeons will allow us to change more lives by further expanding the awareness of their tremendous skill, revolutionary techniques and technologies, as well as their deeply compassionate approach to patient care.”
Before joining Barrow Neurosurgical Associates, Kinna was the Director of Provider and Institutional Provider Programs at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana. He also served as the Director of the St. Vincent Physician Network, a 165 physician multi-specialty group in Billings, MT, and the Vice President of Physicians Services with the Providence, St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA. Spetzler explains that Kinna has a unique understanding of the communities BNA serves on a local, national and global level.
“Bringing John to our specialty practice was the best choice we have made at BNA,” said Nicholas Theodore, MD, neurosurgeon at BNA. “While the board considered several good candidates during our nationwide search, John demonstrated the talent, experience, and personable approach we believe it needed to accomplish our mission. He was the clear choice for CEO.”
Kinna is a member of the Medical Group Management Association as well as the Arizona Medical Group Management Association. He has served as the President and Past President of the Montana MGMA.
