Elbert Kuo, MD, considered one of the top cardiothoracic surgeons in the country, joined the medical staff of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert and Banner Boswell Medical Center as an employed physician.

Dr. Kuo previously served as the director of the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Program, Mediastinal Staging Clinic and the Lung Cancer Screening Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.

His expertise involves minimally invasive and robotic surgery for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer staging, reflux and hiatal hernia, hyperhidrosis, diaphragmatic paralysis and mediastinal masses.

Dr. Kuo has conducted extensive research in lung and esophageal cancer, lung transplantation and has been to Washington D.C. to testify for national insurance coverage of lung cancer screenings. Dr. Kuo is ranked among the best surgeons in the country by Consumers’ Research Council of America, and has received multiple patient satisfaction awards from organizations such as Vitals.

He is board certified in general surgery and in cardiothoracic surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Kuo earned his medical degree and Masters of Medical Science from Brown University, Rhode Island, and a Masters of Public Health at Harvard University.
