Arizona’s leading hospitals once again earned high marks in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, with the seven best hospitals in Arizona recognized as Best Regional Hospitals and Mayo Clinic-Arizona claiming the No. 1 spot in the state.

Now in its 37th year, the U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help patients and their physicians make informed healthcare decisions by evaluating hospitals on patient outcomes, survival rates, nursing quality and other performance measures. For the 2026-27 edition, U.S. News evaluated 120 Arizona hospitals and identified seven that met its standards for Best Regional Hospitals.
This year also marks the debut of regional specialty rankings in four high-demand areas — cancer, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation — giving patients an easier way to identify top-performing hospitals close to home.
“Because most patients choose providers close to home, this year’s debut of regional specialty rankings gives them an easy new way to evaluate their local options,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News & World Report.

Leading the Arizona rankings is Mayo Clinic-Arizona in Phoenix, which was named the state’s No. 1 hospital and earned a place on the prestigious Best Hospitals Honor Roll. Mayo Clinic-Arizona is nationally ranked in 10 adult specialties and rated high performing in 22 adult procedures and conditions, including aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, back surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. An impressive 97% of patients said they would recommend the hospital to others.
Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix ranked No. 2 in Arizona and No. 2 in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The academic medical center is nationally ranked in one adult specialty and recognized as high performing in 13 procedures and conditions, including heart arrhythmia, diabetes, COPD, colon cancer surgery and aortic valve surgery.
Coming in at No. 3 statewide is HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, which received high-performing ratings in 16 adult procedures and conditions. The Scottsdale hospital earned recognition for specialties including heart bypass surgery, heart arrhythmia, colon cancer surgery, spinal fusion and aortic valve surgery.
Southern Arizona is also well represented in this year’s rankings. Banner-University Medical Center Tucson ranked No. 4 statewide and No. 1 in the Tucson metro area. The hospital is nationally ranked in one adult specialty and rated high performing in nine procedures and conditions, including diabetes, heart attack care, colon cancer surgery and hip fracture treatment.
Two hospitals tied for the No. 5 position statewide. TMC Healthcare-Tucson, ranked second in the Tucson metro area, earned high-performing ratings in 12 adult procedures and conditions, including gynecological cancer surgery, diabetes, spinal fusion and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City also received high-performing recognition in 12 procedures and conditions, including COPD, diabetes, colon cancer surgery and aortic valve surgery.
Rounding out Arizona’s top hospitals is Chandler Regional Medical Center, which ranked No. 7 statewide and No. 5 in the Phoenix metro area. The East Valley hospital earned high-performing ratings in 10 adult procedures and conditions, including heart bypass surgery, heart failure, diabetes, spinal fusion and colon cancer surgery.
With nationally recognized healthcare systems and strong regional performers across both metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona continues to offer residents access to high-quality medical care close to home. The addition of regional specialty rankings further helps patients identify hospitals that excel in the specific treatments and services they need most.
