The Valley’s top advertising and creative professionals were announced on Friday night via livestream as AAF Phoenix celebrated the winners of the 2020 ADDY Awards — the local American Advertising Awards. It was a remarkable night, following the last-minute cancellation of the in-person event due to health precautions.

“Cancelling public attendance at our sold-out awards show was heartbreaking. However, the way our advertising and creative community supported the club by participating in the livestream event was incredible,” says Amy Packard Berry, President, AAF Phoenix. “As of yesterday morning, more than 450 people have viewed the event, including the archive views. This is nearly as many people as we planned to have onsite for the gala.”

There was much to celebrate, despite the last-minute event change. The local nonprofit Chicanos Por La Causa took home the competition’s Best of Show Award. University of Phoenix was also honored with Copywriting of the Year, and AIGA Phoenix, another local nonprofit organization, awarded Art Direction of the Year.

It was a record-breaking year even before the planned event, with more than 700 entries submitted from 77 entities, including local advertising agencies, educational institutions, non-profits, corporations and more. More than 73 ADDYs won were Gold award designations, which will automatically move them to the American Advertising Federation’s regional competition.
