The Western Maricopa Coalition (WESTMARC) and Career Connectors, in partnership with Goodwill of Central & Northern Arizona and Arizona@Work, will host the fourth West Valley Healthcare Career Expo on September 20, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Avondale Sports Center, 755 N. 114th Ave, Avondale, AZ, 85323. This FREE event enables candidates to network and meet hiring representatives from several of the West Valley’s top healthcare employers across a variety of fields. Representatives from a number of schools and educational programs will also be present to discuss training opportunities for newcomers to the healthcare industry as well as for seasoned professionals.

Featured Expo hiring sponsors include Banner Health, Grand Canyon University, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Ottawa University, Arizona Department of Health Services and Hacienda Healthcare. Additional organizations will be announced on the event page, WorkWest.org.

The three previous West Valley Healthcare Career Expos successfully brought candidates together with employers in the West Valley. Pleased with the results from that event, Sintra Hoffman, President and CEO of WESTMARC, mentioned how these West Valley Expos benefit the community: “We were able to make a dent in the number of professionals leaving the West Valley each day for employment in other parts of the county.”

Hoffman goes on to say, “WESTMARC is proud to once again partner with Career Connectors, Goodwill, and Arizona@Work,” mentioning how the Healthcare Career Expos are “a tremendous success” that result in “employment opportunities for our talented West Valley workforce.” Candidates attending the event can ask questions of and make immediate connections with potential employers.

Andrea Byers, RN, recalls her experience following the inaugural Expo: “I attended the career expo on Wednesday and spoke to you about trouble I was having getting my foot in the door as a new grad RN. I wanted to say thank you for sponsoring the expo because just a few hours after it ended I received a phone call from one of the participating facilities and was verbally offered a great position. Today, I received the official offer and accepted. I also received several calls from other facilities wanting to set up an interview. After 6 weeks of job hunting and submitting dozens of applications, I was becoming discouraged. Your career fair was exactly what I needed. And the best part is that I won’t have to drive to Mesa for a job! Thank you again.”

The Greater Phoenix area is on its way to becoming a national healthcare hub, with Banner Health replacing Walmart as the largest non-government employer in Arizona. While healthcare is a key economic industry for the state, the healthcare field doesn’t just involve doctors and nurses. Additional important components of the sector include insurance providers and health insurance brokers, pharmaceutical workers, those in the biotechnology and medical device arena, and even healthcare instructors. Employers attending the Expo are eager to engage with attendees since the West Valley has numerous healthcare facilities with hundreds of positions to fill.

Jessica Pierce, Executive Director of Career Connectors, says, “We are proud to have these continuing opportunities to support the healthcare industry in the West Valley.”

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register on the event page: WorkWest.org. Pre-registrants will receive valuable information about the jobs available and how to prepare for the Expo. On event day, on-site registration and check-in for candidates begins at 9:30 am. Company representatives will be available to meet one-on-one with candidates to discuss the numerous opportunities and answer questions about their recruitment processes.
