Dr. Allison Mason, Colangelo College of Business interim dean, Grand Canyon University

BACKGROUND: Dr. Allison Mason has worked at Grand Canyon University since September 2008, and currently serves as the interim dean of the Colangelo College of Business. She has worked in many positions, including leading accreditation efforts for the college. She earned a DBA and MBA from GCU, a MEd in Human Relations from NAU, and a BS in Communications from Winona State University.

CAREER PATH INSPIRATION: “Education and serving others runs in my family. My grandmother was a nurse, my mom was a teacher for over 30 years and my sister and husband are teachers. I knew early on I belonged in education. I had a knack for learning and understanding operations and processes which led me to the administration side of higher education.”

SOURCE OF PRIDE: “I’m proud to be the advisor for the CCOB Women in Business club, which started two years ago and has grown into one of the largest clubs on campus. The student leaders are an impressive group of women who have fully embraced the importance of collaboration over competition, a mindset I believe is crucial for young professionals.”

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: “The bulk of my professional journey has been at GCU, so I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing group of faculty and leaders who have supported me along my journey. Throughout this time, I’ve learned that life isn’t always easy, but the outcome is worth it if you put the time and effort into succeeding.”

SURPRISING FACT: “I was a gymnast from the age of 5 through my junior year of college. My brain still thinks I can do flips and twists, but my body disagrees! I know that’s not in the cards for me now, but I am confident that I will always be able to do handstands and cartwheels.”
