Dr. Sandra Zebrowski, corporate medical director, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona
BACKGROUND: Dr. Sandra Zebrowski, corporate medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is an experienced physician executive, board certified in general and child and adolescent psychiatry. Her expertise spans more than twenty years of clinical experience in both commercial and public sector managed integrated behavioral and physical health care environments. Her special interest/experience includes physical/behavioral health integration, systems of care, medical cost management, and value and outcomes-based contracting models.
SOURCE OF PRIDE: “If I’m asked about an accomplishment that gives me the most pride, I would say that my North Star has always been to put people first. There has never been a more important time than now to do whatever we can for each other. I lead a team of amazing clinicians at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, clinical leaders and clinical care managers and we’re all very much aware that we’re in a pivotal time in healthcare, where the needs of our members and our neighbors are paramount. The work that I do with that team is some of the finest work I’ve ever done.”
SURPRISING FACT: “It might surprise people in my life now to know that there was a time when I was the quietest, shyest person in the room and that girl is not recognizable anymore.”
STANDOUT QUALITIES FOR SUCCESS: “I’ve had many wonderful opportunities to work in leadership positions. Every one of them in healthcare, every one of them in the service of others, and I’ve always worked hard. The qualities that I have that have helped me be successful, are: I’m grounded, I’m solid and I listen with intent. I communicate deliberately and thoughtfully. I’m excellent at problem-solving and I’ve taken all of those skills and built them over time.”
