Today’s spotlight: Sheryl Hays
Director of property management
Wentworth Property Company
Background: Hays has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial property management. She joined Wentworth in 2014 to establish and build the company’s property management division, which now manages about 3 million square feet, roughly a third of which is for third-party clients the team has built relationships with as they acquired assets from Wentworth. In 2017 and 2019, Hays and her team won The Outstanding Building of the Year, for two of the portfolio assets through the local BOMA chapter.
Professional advice: “My advice would be to get involved with organizations and groups outside of your employer and to continually ask questions. Networking is invaluable and being involved has allowed me to connect with so many people creating long-term relationships in our industry, including experts in technical, finance and marketing fields that have helped me become more well-rounded in my career.”
Lesson learned in 2020: “It is easier to stay engaged when we are in the office. I think we all took for granted the spontaneous conversations in the breakroom or dropping by a tenant’s office when touring a property. Staying personally engaged has been an emphasis with the work from home situation resulting from the COVID 19 pandemic. For me, this has meant calls over emails and video or FaceTime with my team.”
