RED Development announced that its Flagstaff mixed-use project, Aspen Place at the Sawmill, will add an REI store and launch phase two with 30,000 additional SF of retail space and 222 luxury apartments.
The new REI is expected to open in spring 2014, when construction also is set to begin on phase-two additions.
The outdoor gear and clothing leader REI will utilize 23,550 SF in a separate building at Aspen Place to serve the needs of outdoor adventurers through innovative, quality products, classes and knowledgeable customer service. REI has 129 stores in 32 states.
“We can’t imagine a better fit for Northern Arizona’s committed outdoor enthusiasts than REI,” said Brett Heron, Executive Vice President, Finance, for RED Development. “REI will add one more exciting reason to visit Aspen Place.”
RED Development also announced that Alliance Bank will join the property with a 6,000 SF full service banking office set to open in Summer 2014.
A major part of the phase-two build-out is new luxury apartments to be built above and adjacent to the new 30,000 SF of retail. The apartments suitably named The Village at Aspen Place, will be developed and built by Kansas City-based developers, ePartment Communities, LLC and will be available in 1- and 2- bedroom floor plans.
In addition to its prime location, the luxury apartments will also feature efficient floor plans with upgraded kitchens, bathrooms and appliances and numerous amenities including a courtyard with heated pool, on-site services and a resident clubhouse featuring a 24-hour fitness center, massage therapists and more. A multi-level garage will offer convenient residential parking.
“We are very excited to bring a new type of rental lifestyle to Flagstaff. The luxury apartments at The Village at Aspen Place will offer the community the only upscale luxury mid-rise apartment option in the market and will take advantage of the tremendous amenities offered by retailers at Aspen Place at the Sawmill,” said Steven Coon, principal for ePartment Communities.
“The walkable environment, New Frontiers Natural Marketplace directly across the street and the shopping and restaurants are but a few of the amenities the location offers. REI’s location across the street further enhances the desirability of the location. No other housing location in Flagstaff will offer the conveniences our residents will enjoy.”
Apartments are expected to be available starting in spring 2015.
“RED continues to exhibit itself as an outstanding corporate partner who is bringing stores to Flagstaff that match our community,” said Kevin Burke, Flagstaff city manager. “We look forward to the opening of REI and the introduction of mixed use development in the heart of the Sawmill development.”
About Aspen Place at the Sawmill Aspen Place currently features 68,000 SF of retail and restaurants and ultimately will include a total of 135,000 SF when all phases are fully built.
Anchored by New Frontiers Natural Marketplace, the mixed-use retail project today includes Chico’s, Cultured Yogurt and Coffee House, Flagstaff Face & Body, Flagstaff Jean Co., Pita Jungle, Someburros and Wildflower Bread Company.
Aspen Place ultimately will combine residential, national and local shops, boutiques, cafes, sit-down and fast-casual dining and services. The project’s design mirrors the architectural vernacular of Flagstaff, connecting with the area’s historic mining and lumber industries through use of stone veneer, timber posts and beams, pitched roofs, metal awnings and canopies.
Aspen Place at the Sawmill is located at Butler Ave. and Lone Tree Rd.
