“As Chris takes to the airwaves for the 2024 season, we are thrilled to have a familiar voice on D-backs radio,” said Derrick Hall, President, CEO & General Partner, Arizona Diamondbacks. “Chris is an appropriate selection to take that seat in the radio booth and carry on the legacy of exceptional storytelling that Greg Schulte started 26 years ago.”
Garagiola, who spent the last two seasons hosting the pre- and postgame shows, while sharing the D-backs radio play-by-play duties with Schulte, is a Scottsdale native and the third generation in his family to work for the Arizona Diamondbacks. His father, Joe Garagiola, Jr., was instrumental in bringing baseball to the Valley, then became the D-backs’ original General Manager from 1995-2005, building the D-backs 2001 World Series Championship team, and currently serves as senior director, special projects for the organization. Chris’ grandfather, Hall-of-Famer Joe Garagiola, Sr., enjoyed a 58-year career in broadcasting, culminating with his final 15 seasons on D-backs broadcasts.
Garagiola’s broadcasting career includes time with the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos as the lead broadcaster and at Trinity University as a sports anchor on the university’s local news show. He’s also a founding member of the “Tiger Network,” the university’s first sports broadcasting service.
