Steeped in nearly 100 years of history, romance and elegance, Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Phoenix has been meticulously restored and revived after the conclusion of a $3.7 million renovation of the Mediterranean-style hideaway. The resort is part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand.

The renovation touched all 119 guest rooms including the Presidential Suite; the Mother-of-Pearl swimming pool and lounge area; various event lawns; as well as landscaping and upkeep of close to 200 towering palms accenting the nine acres.

“It is with great honor and pride that we share the refreshed accommodations, sophisticated surroundings and elevated guest experience that will keep Royal Palms among the country’s top places to stay,” said Geoff Gray, general manager of Royal Palms Resort and Spa. “Our team was adamant about keeping the resort’s distinct character intact, while at the same time introducing modern-day comforts and conveniences for today’s most discerning travelers.”

The resort’s rich history, emblematic details, and iconic location at the base of Camelback Mountain are at the center of the design. Rooms have been lightened and brightened using the natural backdrop of desert Earth tones and framed by rich wood architectural elements. Eclectic furnishings, like custom carved wood desks, blend thoughtful functionality with the character of a majestic estate. Varied by room type, guests can expect to see new artwork and linens that reflect the hues and lavish textures of the Mediterranean; custom tapestries; wood flooring; corridors inspired by the color-tiled walkways of Spanish haciendas; custom, handfinished fireplaces; outdoor showers; claw-foot bathtubs, and artistically etched lighted mirrors featured in bathrooms of suites and casitas.

The 1,700 square-foot Presidential Suite has seen improvements throughout, including upgrades to the gourmet kitchen with a wine refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and additional enhancements on the private patio that showcases breathtaking views.

As part of the upgrades to the resort’s recreation areas, the pool deck now features new lounge chairs inspired by old Hollywood glamour, making for a share-worthy setting. Poolside cabanas with orbit beds continue the resort’s romantic tradition, and a new seasonal culinary and cocktails menu, designed by Executive Chef Todd Allison, invokes a sense of intrigue. Guests are invited to take a dip in the glamorous Mother-of-Pearl-tiled pool or whirlpool spa, cozy up in a cabana – all among the poolside’s charming and chic ambiance and lush outdoor location.

Royal Palms combines the graciousness and sophistication of a storied Mediterranean villa with the intimacy and privacy of a secluded retreat, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit. Winding stone paths transport guests past a grove of orange trees, trickling fountains in courtyards, roaring outdoor fireplaces, 100-year-old rustic doorways and hand-painted tiles, and lush gardens filled with magenta bougainvillea, exotic plants and desert flowers. A true destination for lovers, the resort was originally built as a private mansion in 1929 as a grand gesture of love by financier Delos Willard Cooke for his wife Florence. Guests feel right at home while the heritage and heartbeat of the Royal Palms lives on.

As part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the resort turns guests into storytellers, offering them new adventures and authentic experiences. Like all properties within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Royal Palms provides guests with “social currency,” allowing them the freedom to be unique.
