Odds experts at The Action Network created a Supermoon Visibility Index, which converts factors such as sky clarityhumidityelevation, and certified dark-sky access into implied viewing probabilities and American moneyline odds, indicating where in the U.S. people are most likely to see the Supermoon clearly.

Key Highlight: Arizona (Rank #1)

  • Implied Probability: 4.66% (Moneyline: +2046) – the highest chance of clear Supermoon visibility in the country
  • Average Elevation: 4,100 feet (among the highest statewide averages in the U.S.)
  • Average Clear Days in November: 17.2 (one of the highest nationwide)
  • Average November Humidity: 33% (one of the driest in the country)
  • Darkness Score: 4.13 / 5 (supported by one Bortle 1 and seven Bortle 2 dark-sky sites)

“Our analysis shows that Arizona offers some of the most favorable atmospheric conditions for lunar viewing,” said a spokesperson for The Action Network. “The combination of high elevation, dry air and low cloud cover increases the likelihood of a clear, sharply defined view of the Supermoon.”

Tips for Getting the Clearest View of the Supermoon:

  • Watch around moonrise or moonset: The Supermoon appears largest when it is low on the horizon.
  • Choose a wide, open horizon: Look for an unobstructed view to the east or west.
  • Aim for dry, stable air: Low humidity and elevation help reduce haze and sharpen detail.
  • Avoid light pollution: Moving even 20–30 minutes outside city areas can noticeably improve visibility.
  • Keep your camera steady: Rest your phone or camera on a stable surface to prevent motion blur.
