Ha Pak Nai
If you’re looking for something more low-key than a full-blown vacation, Ha Pak Nai is perfect. This is where you’ll find yourself sitting on a quiet beach, watching the sunset over the South China Sea as you enjoy a drink or two. There are no crowds, no lines, and no pressure. Just you, your partner, and a few friends. Ha Pak Nai is normally located on Lamma Island, which is an hour away by ferry from Central. The island is home to many restaurants serving seafood dishes, but we recommend eating at one of the local fish markets instead. They have incredible freshness, and they’re much cheaper than fancy places. Your accommodation will be a private villa, so you won’t need to worry about sharing space with other people. But don’t expect any luxuries – this is all about getting away from it all.
The Peak
There’s nothing quite like walking around the Peak, especially when you’ve got a view of Victoria Harbor in front of you. The Peak offers a different experience every time you visit, whether you’re going for a hike, taking in the sights, or simply enjoying a cocktail while soaking up the sunset. We love visiting during the day because we feel like we’re seeing Hong Kong through new eyes. At night, though, the lights of the city below really come alive. From the Peak, you can also catch a glimpse of the skyline of Kowloon, and even the skyscrapers of downtown Hong Kong.
Signal Hill Garden
This is another romantic spot that should not be missed. Located on the eastern side of Lantau Island, right next to Tung Chung Airport, Signal Hill Garden is a small park surrounded by lush greenery. The park was originally built as a lookout point for military purposes and later turned into a public garden. Today, it’s home to several interesting attractions, including a 62-foot-high Signal Tower built by the Royal Hong Kong Observatory in 1907, and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. This is a great place to bring your honeymoon or to celebrate your anniversary. There’s a lot of room to spread out, and you can always rent a table at one of the nearby restaurants. With its stunning views of Victoria Harbor, Signal Hill Garden is worth checking out.
Tap mum
Located on the southern tip of Hong Kong Island, Tap Mum is a hidden gem that has been drawing visitors since the early 1900s. A short drive from Central, this is a picturesque little fishing village that feels miles away from civilization. It’s a popular destination for locals who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and tourists who want to explore the area without having to deal with traffic jams. You can spend hours exploring the narrow streets of Tap Mum, but make sure you stop by the old market first. You’ll see everything from souvenirs to clothing, and you can get a taste of what life was like here decades ago. If you’re planning on staying overnight, you might want to book a bungalow at one of the guesthouses in town. There are plenty of options, and most offer free Wi-Fi. This romantic spot will take you back in time, and if you’re lucky enough to stay overnight, you’ll wake up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
Lamma Island
One of our favorite spots in Hong Kong, Lamma Island is a must-visit if you’re looking for a relaxing getaway. Located just 30 minutes away from Central by ferry, this tiny island is home to only about 5,000 people. The main attraction here is the beach, which is lined with palm trees and dotted with white sand. On weekends, the island becomes overrun with families and young lovers, so try to go during weekdays if possible. When you’re ready to leave, hop on the ferry back to Hong Kong and start planning your next trip.
The Peak Galleria
If you’re looking for something fun to do in Hong Kong, then check out The Peak Galleria mall. It’s located on the top floor of Peak Tower, and it’s filled with shops selling all kinds of things. From fashion to electronics, you won’t find anything missing. And did we mention that it’s also home to an indoor ice skating rink? We don’t know why more people aren’t aware of this amazing place. But once you’ve tried it, you’ll never look at shopping malls the same way again.
Hong Kong Park
Another wonderful place to visit in Hong Kong is Hong Kong Park. Located near the harbor, this beautiful park offers breathtaking views of the skyline. It’s also home to many different species of animals, including peacocks, monkeys, and even tigers! Make sure you pack your camera because you’ll have a hard time capturing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Normally closed between November and March, the park opens every day of the year except for Chinese New Year. While you’re there, you can also check out the Hong Kong Museum of History, which features exhibits dedicated to the history of Hong Kong.
Sai Kung Country Park
A few hours outside of Hong Kong lies the Sai Kung Country Park. This serene forest is perfect for hiking or taking long walks along the coastline. It’s also home to various wildlife, including deer, wild boars, and even a herd of elephants. So bring your binoculars, because you’re bound to catch a glimpse of them while you’re walking around. There are several trails within the park, but the best ones are the North Trail and South Trail. Both of these trails lead to scenic viewpoints where you can admire the view of the ocean. They’re both easy hikes, so they shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge.
