“Play-based learning is an essential component of a child’s development. This transformative space integrates play with cutting-edge technology, providing children a dynamic environment to cultivate creativity and critical thinking through interactive, hands-on experiences,” said i.d.e.a. Museum Executive Director Jarrad Bittner. “The idea Lab will be pivotal to the renovation strategy of the museum and the impact Meta’s support will have for years to come.”

At the idea Lab, visitors will experience physical art creation with digital interaction, offering tools like 3D printers and laser cutters while also showcasing the potential and sustainability of recycled materials. It fosters communal creativity and showcases the ripple effects of innovation.

“This is a visionary collaboration between the i.d.e.a. Museum and Meta’s Mesa facility,” said Mayor John Giles. “This innovative space promises to make a lasting impact on people of all ages by fostering creativity, critical thinking and technological curiosity. We greatly appreciate Meta’s investment in our community.”

In addition to being the title sponsor of the idea Lab, Meta is sponsoring Meta Family Days to enhance accessibility at the i.d.e.a. Museum. Their contribution expands free admission days and free admission evening hours starting in the Fall of 2024, ensuring families facing financial and other constraints can equally partake in the museum’s offerings.

“Meta is proud to call Mesa home and we’re thrilled to support the i.d.e.a. Museum’s new idea Lab and its unique hands-on programming,” said David Williams, Meta’s community development manager. “Combined with more access opportunities for Mesa families, we’re looking to help inspire the next generation of STEAM students.”

The City of Mesa anticipates a Fall 2024 opening of the idea Lab, marking the i.d.e.a. Museum’s initial renovation phase. Additional renovation phases are currently in the planning stages.

Since breaking ground on their data center campus in southeast Mesa in 2021, Meta has been committed to investing in the long-term vitality of Mesa and the power of art, science and technology to advance, inspire and forge connections among people.
