Kitty Pause Kitty Café, the place to pause and play with feline friends, is opening as the only cat café in the East Valley. Located off Dobson and Guadalupe, Kitty Pause invites the community to its grand opening celebrations on Sunday, Aug. 29.
Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the day-long, family-friendly celebration includes a ribbon cutting hosted by the Mesa Chamber of Commerce, guided tours throughout the day and fun activities that are a preview of the types of events and experiences Kitty Pause will regularly offer, including:

• 10:30 a.m. – Cat trivia with fun prizes and refreshments
• 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Free cafe tours
• 3:30 p.m. – Cat bingo
“Kitty Pause Kitty Café is a feline activity center where joyful interactions between people and cats are made,” said Kitty Pause creator and owner, Marsha Ham. “We are so excited to share this space and vision with the community and look forward to meeting visitors from across the Valley.”
The 1,700 square foot cat cafe is designed for playing, relaxing and cuddling with cats – perfect for those looking to get their kitty fix or those looking to bring home and adopt a new companion. The space includes many areas for these interactions including lounge furniture, a life-size kitty climbing tree, wall perches, walkways and play cubes, as well as quiet spaces where the felines can rest.
Additionally, Kitty Pause will bring the community together offering a variety of events including yoga, cat bingo, Cat-O-Poly and movie nights, all while in the company of cats. Kitty Pause will also offer free Wi-Fi with lots of space to study or work with the companionship of the felines while keeping a safe social distance from others. The cafe will also feature the Katnip Boutique with fun items for felines and cat lovers alike.
Through a partnership with Saving One Life Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, a volunteer run, never-kill animal rescue, all cats in Kitty Pause will be fully vetted and ready for adoption. The space will allow potential adopters to engage with the felines in a fun and playful environment with the goal of helping them find their forever homes.
“We’re excited to partner with Kitty Pause to showcase our fabulous felines in an inviting and comfortable space,” said Carrie Neidorf, Director of Saving One Life. “Kitty Pause will become a hub for feline lovers from around the Valley – a gathering place to enjoy feline company and find a forever friend.”
The vision for Kitty Pause was developed by Ham who was inspired by a visit to a cat café in San Francisco. Retiring from a long career in higher education, she is looking to share her love of cats through the new space.
