Maricopa County once again added more new residents over the last year than any other county in the nation, according to new data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Today’s news marks the third year in a row that Maricopa County led the nation in population growth.

Maricopa County added 81,244 people from July 2017 to June 2018 — equal to more than 200 people a day. Home to cities including Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale and more, Maricopa County remained the fourth most populous county in the U.S. with 4,410,824 total residents.

“Arizona is open for opportunity — and the word is out,” said Gov. Doug Ducey. “For the third year in a row, more people are moving to Maricopa County than any county in the nation. Arizona’s economy is booming. Paychecks are some of the fastest growing in the country. And we continue to provide an unbeatable quality of life. We will continue to focus on policies that expand opportunity, promote health and safety and keep Arizona an amazing place to live.”

Maricopa County attracted more net migration than any other county in the U.S. Additionally, the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area ranked first in the nation for domestic net migration (people moving inside the U.S. only) and has a higher population than 24 U.S. states.

Arizona recently ranked third in the U.S. for economic momentum, fourth for population growth and fifth for personal income growth.

More than 122,000 people moved to the state between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018. Arizona is projected to add 165,000 new jobs by 2020.
