The Valley of the Sun Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) named Ken Nessler of Sun Valley Masonry the 2014 Arizona Construction Pioneer Award Winner.

Each year, CFMA honors an individual that has made significant contributions to the construction industry and the community. As vice president of Sun Valley Masonry, Nessler was selected for the Pioneer Award for his dedication to the masonry industry.

“This award represents individuals who have contributed greatly over a long career in Arizona construction, construction causes, industry education and giving back to the community,” said Jennifer Ayers, chairperson for CFMA’s Construction Executive of the Year Committee. “We are pleased to announce Ken Nessler as the recipient.”

Nessler’s vast experience and knowledge of the masonry industry has facilitated Sun Valley Masonry in securing some of the largest landmark projects in the Southwest. Beginning his career in 1965 as an apprentice bricklayer, Nessler gained invaluable working knowledge as a foreman, superintendent and field operations manager. Nessler moved his family to Phoenix in 1977 and co-founded Sun Valley Masonry.

In addition to Sun Valley Masonry, Nessler’s involvement in the construction industry has included the reinstatement of the Arizona Masonry Guild’s Architectural Awards Banquet, trustee and officer for the Bricklayers and Tile Setters Health and Welfare Trust Fund, director of the Signatory Mason Contractors Association, as well as director and president of the Arizona Bid Depository.

In 2002, Nessler was involved in an automobile accident and suffered from a second spinal cord injury, limiting him to an electric wheelchair. He returned to work a year later with the same passion and vigor for the masonry industry continuing to promote the industry with even support for the Arizona Masonry Guild, The Mason Contractors Association and the Signatory Mason Contractors Association.

Nessler will be honored at the 15th Annual CFMA Arizona Construction Executive of the Year Awards Banquet on April 17, 2014 at the Palomar Hotel in downtown Phoenix. In addition to honoring Nessler, the Valley of the Sun Chapter will be recognizing the accomplishments of four finalists for the Arizona Construction Executive of the Year Award as well as the General and Associate members of the year.
