The Pederson Group, developers of of class “A’ retail shopping centers in Phoenix and throughout Arizona, announced The Trailhead, a revolutionary mixed-use project proposed for the heart of Peoria. Planned for the NE corner of 83rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road in the city’s fast-growing, desirable Happy Valley Corridor, this 25-acre upscale neighborhood lifestyle center will be anchored by a curated district of 15+ specialty retail & restaurant tenants combining best-in-class local and national concepts, as well as a premium 62,000 sq.-ft. grocery store. Most important, The Trailhead includes a proposed new crossing to the City of Peoria’s recently expanded Sunrise Mountain Preserve, perfect for a pre-hike breakfast, or unwinding over local craft beers following a full day on the trails.

The proposed project, which will be developed, owned and managed by The Pederson Group, was conceptualized and designed with input from valued neighboring communities and key stakeholders, including City staff and elected officials, the Upper West Side PHX group and the Copper Hill Community Church. Housed in the geographic center of Peoria, The Trailhead will serve as the commercial crown jewel of the ruggedly beautiful and thriving Happy Valley Corridor, with more than 4,000 homes under development set to join the more than 56,000 households in the immediate surrounding area. When complete, neighbors and destination visitors alike will enjoy thoughtful amenities, including splash pads and a community garden. As a full service lifestyle center, The Trailhead will also serve as a new neighborhood hub and welcoming all-day hangout, including ample bike, ride share and valet parking, and a pedestrian-friendly layout that connects seamlessly with both the surrounding neighborhoods and the pristine Sunrise Mountain Preserve.

“The Trailhead is a combination of two shopping centers designed as a reaction to the massive changes in retail and more specifically the North Valley,” says Jim Pederson, founder and chairman of The Pederson Group.  “The City’s vision with their parks system created an opportunity to attract the quality local and regional restaurants the North Valley deserves.  The amenities at the Trailhead, such as a splash pad, community garden, inclusion of local art, not to mention a trail connection to Sunrise Mountain all combine with destination restaurants and retail to create a community gathering place-a true community center-for the people of Peoria and for the entire North West Valley.”

Since 1983 the Pederson Group Inc. has developed, revitalized, leased and managed best-in-class retail shopping centers across Arizona, including the Scottsdale Promenade and Hayden Peak. Unlike traditional built-it-and-flip-it developers, Pederson handcrafts each project with an owner’s commitment to quality construction and long-term value. Specific to The Trailhead, the Pederson team’s principals have delivered diverse offerings ranging from Scottsdale 101 and the expansions of Scottsdale Fashion Square and Arrowhead Town Center, to the intimate and character-driven neighborhood center Uptown Plaza in Phoenix. The team, now collectively assembled within Pederson Group, have been part of delivering great restaurant tenants to iconic centers, such as Postino WineCafé and Shake Shack to Kierland Commons and Fox Restaurant Group to Uptown Plaza.
