From pediatric hospitals to rehabilitation centers, the West Valley is attracting an ever-growing collection of healthcare options to accommodate the comprehensive health needs of a rapidly expanding population. Take a look at these 12 newly completed and upcoming West Valley healthcare projects that are occupying multiple locales throughout the region.

Abrazo Health Buckeye Medical Campus
Announced early Jan. 2022, a new Abrazo Health medical campus will occupy 27 acres near the southwest corner of 1-10 and Verrado Way in Buckeye. According to Abrazo, “Plans for the campus include a medical office building, ambulatory services and an acute care hospital.” The project is slated to break ground this year.
Apricus Health Imaging Center
Located at Avondale’s AKOS Medical Campus (10825 West McDowell Road, Suite 110), Apricus Health patients have access to a host of state-of-the-art imaging services courtesy of advanced technology from 3T MRI (SIEMENS Healthineers Magnetom Verio) and 3D breast imaging (Hologic Selenia) to bone density testing (Hologic Horizon DXA) and more.
Apricus Health Surgery Center of Avondale
The 10,320 square-foot center located at Akos Medical Campus on 107th Avenue and McDowell Road, will offer three operating rooms, two procedure rooms and 16 patient care bays.
Apricus Health Surgery Center of Surprise
This conveniently located (Bell and El Mirage Roads), joint venture with Peak Heart & Vascular — a Surprise-based medical group providing cardiology care — will consist of a 11,196-square-foot center. Employing 60 staff members, it will also include three operating rooms, one catheterization laboratory and 13 patient care bays.
Banner Health hospital in Buckeye
The four-story, 330,000-square-foot hospital will be located on the northwest corner of Verrado Way and the I-10 freeway. It will be adjacent to the existing Banner Health Center and will help fulfill the health care needs of area residents, including those in Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield and surrounding areas.
ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Avondale
Located at 109th Avenue and West McDowell Road in Avondale, this 43,000-square-foot medical facility will house 30 patient beds, providing specialized rehabilitative care to individuals living with disabling injuries or illnesses such as strokes, brain injuries, hip fractures, spinal injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or other debilitating conditions such as COVID-19. Groundbreaking for the facility is planned for May, with the opening planned for Summer 2022.
HonorHealth Complete Care in Surprise
HonorHealth, a leading Valley healthcare system serving 1.6 million people in the greater Phoenix and Scottsdale area, recently announced the opening of their latest healthcare facility, HonorHealth Complete Care, in Surprise. The new location at 16575 W. Waddell Road, is a dual care retail model that provides convenient access to a full-service Emergency Room and Urgent Care under one roof. HonorHealth has partnered with Intuitive Health to build the 12,000 square-foot space that includes full X-ray, CT scan and laboratory testing capabilities.
Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in Goodyear
Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers announced the groundbreaking of its newest healthcare facility in Goodyear, Arizona. To mark the occasion, the company will celebrate with a groundbreaking ceremony to take place on September 20, 2022, at 9 a.m. The new 28,634 -square-foot facility is specially designed on 6 acres, located at NWC of 159th Ave & McDowell. This project will employ approximately 52 full-time positions.
Phoenix Children’s Arrowhead Campus
Located at 18701 North 67th Avenue in Glendale, this three-story pediatric hospital will offer inpatient care, an emergency department, a surgery center and a multi-specialty clinic. Plans call for 24 inpatient beds, six operating rooms, two minor procedure rooms, 30 emergency bays/trauma rooms and a 45,000-square-foot clinic to house orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, oncology and numerous other in-demand specialties. The clinic will open in 2023; the hospital will open in 2024.
Phoenix Children’s Avondale Campus
This Avondale-based, 71,250 square-foot, multi-specialty clinic, located at 1665 North Avondale Boulevard, will offer care in high-need specialties including psychiatry, psychology and developmental pediatrics. A freestanding emergency department will offer 24/7 emergency care; 40 triage, treatment and resuscitation patient rooms; six fast-track beds, and comprehensive imaging services. The clinic will open in 2022; the emergency department is slated to open in 2023. The urgent care center will be open until the emergency department is fully operational.
Phoenix Children’s Sports Physical Therapy Clinic (two locations)
The first of two Phoenix Children’s sports physical therapy clinics in the West Valley is located at 765 North 114th Avenue at the Boulevard in Avondale, opened in January 2021. The clinic offers expert physical therapy, rehabilitation and education services. An additional Phoenix Children’s Sports Physical Therapy Clinic will open later this summer, located at 18969 North 83rd Street, Suite 4, in Peoria. The 8,000 square-foot facility will also offer physical therapy, rehabilitation and education services.
Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital
This inpatient rehabilitation care center will cater to people with debilitating illnesses and injuries such as stroke and brain injury, as well as other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions. The 49,128 square-foot facility, located in Peoria (13451 North 94th Drive), will house 40 patient beds, administrative offices, two high-tech physical therapy gyms, dining and kitchen spaces and more.
