Phoenix’s Warehouse District is located just south of the downtown core — an area deeply entwined with the city’s economic history thanks to its proximity to Union Pacific Railroad’s rail yard. Today, the district is experiencing a renaissance, with new office spaces, restaurants, galleries, music venues and mixed-use projects throughout the area. Joining this growing community is Amara, a seven-story luxury multifamily building being developed by Gallium and Elevate Companies, with DXA Studio designing this new mixed-use community.

The $100 million project will feature around 300 units built in a five-over-two configuration, with the bottom two floors planned for 15,000 to 20,000 square feet of amenity and retail space, along with parking. Jaf Glazer, chairman and CEO of Gallium, says Amara — a Sanskrit word that translates to immortal or elegant — has a focus on wellness and will include a hyperbaric oxygen therapy machine, cold plunge, IV vitamin drips, red light therapy and more.

Thanks to its proximity to Chase Field and the new $100 million training facility for the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, Glazer says the units will be perfect for young professionals who are gravitating more toward Downtown Phoenix than Scottsdale.

“I think we could also provide housing for some of the players, because we’re going to have a higher caliber product than others. We’re going to do some cool penthouse units as well,” he adds. “DXA Studio is a really good architecture firm out of New York City, and they don’t do anything vanilla.”

The site for Amara is also across street from ASU’s Grant Street Studios, which houses facilities for the School of Art’s graduate programs and Northlight Gallery, Step Gallery and Ceramics Graduate Studio.

“Amara is in an Opportunity Zone, so there will be a 10-year hold [on the property,]” Glazer continues. “The location offers outstanding energy, setting the stage for a distinctive project. We recognize that many products being delivered by merchant builders do not meet higher standards, resulting in a proliferation of similar developments. Our approach is to create something truly exceptional and differentiate ourselves by steering clear of those conventional offerings.”

Today, Glazer resides both in the Big Apple and Scottsdale, but spent his childhood in New York City making frequent trips to Arizona. Growing up in SoHo, he was steeped in a community that once was an industrial hub.

“There were cobblestones and factories — it had this industrial conversion energy that was really different,” he explains. “Phoenix’s Warehouse District felt the same way when I first got to the market.”

Construction for Amara — located at 602 E. Grant St. — is slated to begin in fall/winter of 2026.
