VanTrust Real Estate (VanTrust) announced the start of construction on two new Amazon sortation centers, including their first Southern Arizona project in Tucson, Ariz. Continuing its investment in Arizona with two facilities that support customer fulfillment and delivery operations, the facilities are expected to open later this year and create hundreds of new full- and part-time jobs.

The Tucson facility, located at Corona and Alvernon, will span more than 270,000 square feet on a 46-acre site and the Glendale facility, also 270,000 square-feet, is located at North Sarival Road and Maryland Avenue and situated on 42 acres. Both facilities were designed by HPA Architecture, Irvine, Calif.

The Tucson location will be Amazon’s fourth building to open in Southern Arizona and the first project in Pima County for developer VanTrust Real Estate. These will be added to the many Amazon projects VanTrust has completed within their diverse portfolio of office, industrial and multifamily housing throughout Central and Northern Arizona as well as Southern Nevada.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero stated, “The City welcomes VanTrust into our community of industrial developers, helping us create more jobs, and supporting our recovery. We are pleased that VanTrust chose Tucson for this project, and we look forward to future projects with them as we continue to support growth in the logistics sector.”

Keith Earnest, Executive Vice President, National Accounts for VanTrust, added, “We are excited to continue our investment throughout Arizona with a project in Pima County that will expedite delivery times for Amazon customers and provide great job opportunities for the talented workforce in Tucson. Everyone we have interacted with at The City of Tucson—from the Mayor’s office to Planning & Development Services and Economic Development departments have been instrumental in making this project a reality.”

“Every day at Amazon, incredible employees come together to deliver magical experiences for customers,” said Marcus Buford, Director, Amazon Operations. “We are excited to break ground on these new sortation centers in Arizona, where more than 25 years of Amazon’s operational expertise, technology advancements and investment in transportation infrastructure is enabling faster delivery for our community.”

VanTrust has successfully developed e-commerce distribution centers throughout the Southwest that meet the unique demands of companies like Amazon. VanTrust continues to be active in the Southwest, developing office, multi-family and state-of-the-art industrial facilities for major corporations.

General contractors on the projects are Catamount Constructors for the Tucson facility and Layton Construction for the Glendale facility.
