smow3The Core | LGE Design Build Joint Venture announced the groundbreaking for construction on the city of Scottsdale’s Museum of the West located at the Northwest corner of Marshall Way and First Street in the heart of downtown Scottsdale. It will create a partnership with the arts district galleries, studios, dining and shopping venues directly to the north and throughout the downtown area.

The 42,133 square foot facility is owned by the city of Scottsdale, and will utilize the city’s previously abandoned and transit center, adjacent to the current Loloma Transit Center.

“This project presents a unique opportunity for the city of Scottsdale to attract national and international prominence as a tourism capital through the success of a municipally funded museum that highlight our local heritage and history,” said Michael Fox, executive director of the Museum of the West.

smow4David Sellers, president of the Core | LGE Design Build Joint Venture which is constructing the project, said the Museum of the West posed both challenges and rewards.

“It was a great project from the standpoint that we were able to work within the boundaries of an existing structure, yet were charged with creating a look and feel that the city and the Museum of the West were looking for, both inside and out,” he said. “We tapped every element of our suite of services to get this to project the energy and sophistication the city and museum wanted.”
