Arizona cities are among the most generous and pocket-friendly cities in the United States when it comes to the rental space you can get on a median income without breaking the bank.
In RENTCafé‘s most recent study, it found out the maximum square feet you can get in the 100 most populous U.S. cities without becoming rent burdened.
Here are the highlights in and around Phoenix:
• If you’re earning the median income in Gilbert, spending a healthy 30% of that on rent would still get you a whopping 1,174 square feet of living space. More than anywhere else. Gilbert also leads in the ranking of only 14 cities where 30% of the median income allows you to rent an apartment larger than the average available.
• With rents that average at $1,287 per month and apartments with an average square footage of 940, Chandler has the second best stats in Arizona when it comes to how much space is available when earning the median income: 1,069 square feet.
• Scottsdale is the tenth city nationally in terms of rent-to-space affordability. This might be due to slightly higher average rents: $1,471. A median income here offers 924 square feet rent-burden free.
• The other cities in descending order are Mesa (751 square feet), Phoenix proper (727 square feet), and Glendale (695 square feet). The reason why they offer less space is mostly due to lower average apartment sizes available.
