SmithGroupJJR, an architecture, engineering and planning firm, has promoted Craig Passey, AIA, to leader of the Health Studio at its Phoenix office. He succeeds Mark Patterson, who recently was elevated to become the firm’s international Health Practice leader.

Passey has over 20 years of experience in architectural planning and design and is recognized for his expertise in ambulatory care and acute care facilities. In his new role, he will oversee the growing studio and its project delivery and business development efforts throughout the Intermountain region, while continuing to engage with local clients such as Banner Health and Mountain Park Health Center.

Passey joined SmithGroupJJR in 2005 as a senior project manager, bringing a strong background in the planning and design of healthcare facilities.

“Craig Passey has been an integral part of expanding our healthcare client base and strengthening our relationships with both local and regional healthcare providers. His inclusive leadership style is well received in and outside the office, a characteristic of Craig we truly value,” said Brad Woodman, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Phoenix office director, SmithGroupJJR.

Among Passey’s most noteworthy projects are VA Outpatient Clinics in McAllen and Harlingen, Texas; Banner Ironwood Medical Center, San Tan Valley, Arizona, a $128 million greenfield hospital; the master plan for the University of Las Vegas Shadow Lane Campus, a proposed 18-acre, shared health sciences campus; and the recently completed patient tower expansion and renovations to Banner Estrella Medical Center, located in Phoenix.

Passey received a Bachelor of Science in Design from Arizona State University and is an active member of American Institute of Architects (AIA) Arizona chapter.
